Thank God It's Fulfilling! Identifying Your Ideal Career
TGIF! What does it evoke
in you? For most of us it is Thank God It’s Friday! - implying the
workweek is finally over and we can now get to things that really
matter. The typical person spends over 100,000 hours working during
their lifetime. Studies indicate that more than 60% of people do not
enjoy their work. Is this the way you want to spend your life? What
would happen if we changed our personal beliefs of TGIF from Thank
God It’s Friday to Thank God It’s Fulfilling! What if: You were
living life on your terms through your career every day? You were
doing things that you were passionate about every day? Your work
actually rejuvenated and reenergized you rather than drained you? We
will discuss practical steps that you can take to begin your
transition from a “Thank God It's Friday” mentality to a “Thank God
It's Fulfilling” reality!
Create Your Ideal Career Right Where You Are
Many people are more
willing to quit their jobs, than ask for what they want. We
fantasize about walking into the boss and saying, "Take this job and
shove it, I'm not working here no more!" But often, we find that
with our next job, the grass isn't all that greener. Why not try to
create your ideal career right where you are? We will discuss
strategies for getting what you want at work. First, you must be
crystal clear on what you want. You must be a solid performer. You
must get up the courage to ask for what you want and you need to be
willing to work together with your manager to find a solution. Join
Christy as we delve into the fears and possibilities of having these
courageous conversations with our managers.
Put Your Career into Motion! Implementing Your Vision
Most job seekers misplace
their time and energy on ineffective job search strategies that are
in direct opposite priority of how employers identify candidates.
Common approaches include surfing the 'net, updating your resume,
and responding to ads. These methods only tap into the published job
market and have only proven to be 4-24% effective. Learn how to
jump-start your job search by building a job search MARKETING plan.
You are, after all, selling a product and/or service - yourself!
Strategies to access the hidden or unpublished job market will be
discussed, including - networking, conducting information and
referral meetings, and getting your ideal job created. Effective
resume, interview, and salary negotiation approaches will also be
covered.
So, You’re Expected to be Superwoman? Goal Setting for Today’s Woman
As working women, we have
an endless list of roles and responsibilities: wife, mother,
daughter, sister, friend, professional, manager, co-worker, PTO
member, volunteer, caretaker, etc., etc, etc. Often we put everyone
else’s needs ahead of our own, leaving no time for our own dreams
and desires. In this session, we will take the time to reflect on
the roles and goals we’ve had in the past year and set our
intentions going forward. We will learn specific strategies for
setting balanced goals which help us accomplish more with greater
ease, less stress and enhanced personal fulfillment.
Understanding Ourselves and Others
Understanding ourselves
and others better is a key factor in personal growth and
satisfaction. In this session, you will learn about four key
attributes of personality – where you prefer to focus your attention
and where you gain your energy; and, how you prefer to: gather
information, make decisions and organize your environment. The
combination of these factors provides a valuable picture of your
personality style which helps you better understand yourself, your
motivations, your strengths, and potential areas for growth. It will
also help you better understand those who differ from you.
Understanding your personality type is self-affirming and enhances
cooperation and productivity.
Parents as Partners in Career Development
The work paradigms that
we grew up with have changed drastically. Learn about the trends
your students/children will be facing as they enter the workforce
and strategies to help parents be more effective partners in their
children's career development. Parents exert enormous influence over
their children's career choice, regardless of whether they are
actively involved or not. Their attitudes toward work, their
behaviors, their perceived success or failure all contribute to
their child's beliefs about work. They have a fine line to balance
between guiding their children's career choices while not dictating
those choices or transferring their own career desires onto their
children. Learn about the common mistakes that parents make and a
better process for helping them guide their children's career
decision making process.
